Genotypes

  • Genotype 1 is the most common hepatitis c genotype in the United States, representing approximately 75% of the cases and so far remains the most difficult to cure.
  • Different strains respond differently to available medications.
  • Within genotype 1 there are two sub strains 1a and 1b. 1b typically responds to medications better than 1a.
  • Make sure you know your hepatitis c genotype as the most effective treatment options are depended on this.
