- Genotype 1 is the most common hepatitis c genotype in the United States, representing approximately 75% of the cases and so far remains the most difficult to cure.
- Different strains respond differently to available medications.
- Within genotype 1 there are two sub strains 1a and 1b. 1b typically responds to medications better than 1a.
